Curiousa & Curiousa has built its brand of hand-blown glass lighting on mixing traditional British design and skilled manufacturing, with modern palettes and forms. Formed by Esther Patterson in 2010, the brand’s colourful glass pendants caught the market’s imagination and its ethos of exceptional service has helped it gain an enviable reputation in the industry. This spring, Patterson will be launching three new lights, each reflecting the bond forged between traditional techniques and modern design. The Cordero chandelier features 16 hand-blown glass droplets of colour that are lit with bespoke LED fittings to shine like luminous gems. Transparent Teal, Emerald and Yellow Ochre are mixed with semi-opaque Canary, Lichen, Blau and White to wonderful effect. ‘The Cordero is named after my great friend, Isabel whose playful Spanish aesthetic helped create a chandelier that unashamedly celebrates light and colour,’ says Patterson. The Chintz pendants ooze charm and elegance. Blown in a new colour for 2017, Blush, Patterson felt it was time to once again embrace ornament. Inspired by Victorian shades spotted in a small back-street antiques shop in Venice, these designs beautifully reflect the fluidity of the glass blowers art while creating a pendant with a hint of frill and frippery. Finally, the Lotus Dine Light is launched to complement the Dine and Double Dine Lights already in the range, featuring colourful hand-blown glass with a hand-turned half-metre walnut disc to create a stunning centrepiece. ‘As we hand-blow every piece of glass, without the use of moulds, every piece is truly unique, formed by hand and tools. No piece is exact, none truly symmetrical and each piece comes with variations in colour and form that, for me, captures the real magic of the process,’ says Patterson. The bespoke nature of the glass means it can be blown to any shape and any size, providing customers with infinite options, complemented by a range of 22 colours, as well as eight flex colours and four fitting finishes. Every order placed is personal, from single pendants to large-scale chandeliers; customers, designers and architects alike get the same intimate level of service that Curiousa & Curiousa prides itself on. Curiousa & Curiousa will be exhibiting at the Icon House of Culture during Clerkenwell Design Week, which takes place from 23 to 25 May 2017. Its Islington showroom will house an exhibition of 20th century glass, including pieces from Patterson’s personal collection that have helped inspire her range. This is an advertisement feature.
