If you’re not a morning person, the new Big Brekkie Collection by Henry Holland Studio might be the injection of joy you need to bring a smile to your face. A capsule collection consisting of egg cup saucers, toast racks, avocado bowls and salt and pepper shakers, each design takes inspiration from foods we often enjoy for breakfast. And with vibrant tomato reds, avocado greens and egg yolk yellows perfectly captured in the designer’s signature nerikomi aesthetic, it is a joyful infusion of colour to any tablescape.

‘With all that’s going on in the world right now, sometimes we just need something to help make us smile first thing in the morning,’ says Holland when discussing the inspiration behind the collection. ‘I was experimenting by hand dyeing clays in the studio and developed this new bright egg-yolk yellow which evolved into the egg cup saucer.’ Following this Holland went on to develop the green and white for the smashed avocado bowl, a terracotta hue for a streaky bacon inspired toast rack and a vibrant red clay for the studio’s ceramic version of the renowned giant plastic tomato sauce holder but to be used as salt and pepper shakers.

Holland, who began his ceramic endeavours in 2021 after stepping away from the world of fashion after 13 years, fell in love with the meditative craft during lockdown while also enjoying the slower pace it offered in comparison to the fashion industry. Developing his own interpretation of the nerikomi ceramic technique – a Japanese process which involves stacking different coloured clays together to form unique patterns – the designer’s work soon garnered a loyal community of followers leading him to establish a permanent ceramic studio in East London.

Over the last three years the designer has worked on a variety of collaborations as well as being stocked in retailers such as Liberty London. Also expanding his range into lamps, mirrors, candles and glassware, his passion to create is resonating with the wider industry. Looking ahead, Holland has a wealth of ideas he is hoping to bring to fruition. A new vase collection is set to launch next month while an exciting project for Clerkenwell Design Week is being unveiled in May. From fashion to ceramics, Holland’s dedication to his craft is clear to see with the vivacious colours and creations bringing joy to homes all over the world.
The Big Brekkie Collection by Henry Holland Studio starts at £65 and is available here.
