The design show returns this week for its seventh year, and is bigger than ever Clerkenwell is a hub of creativity in central London, home to some of the world’s leading architects, designers and furniture brands. Now in its seventh year, Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) has become a well-established event on the design calendar. This year, CDW will feature more than 300 exhibitors and draw over 35,000 visitors from the London and international design community over three days between 24 and 26 May. INSTALLATIONS The Museum of Making Built from Equitone panels and designed by White Arkitekter with engineering from Price & Myers, the Museum of Making (pictured above) is a deconstructed barn that will function as a live social space dedicated to the art of making during CDW. Archival exhibits from the Museum of London will be on display alongside the work of contemporary makers practising in Clerkenwell. The museum is also hosting daily participatory workshops by The Goldsmiths’ Centre, Craft Central and graphic design agency Thomas Matthews. Hakwood and Flea Folly Architects FleaFolly Architects has partnered with Dutch wood flooring company Hakwood to design and create ‘HakFolly’, a 4.5m-high temple of timber located within the historic St John’s Gate. Inspired by a visit to Hakwood’s factory in the Netherlands, HakFolly is a stacked timber structure that aims to create a fleeting moment of calm amid the hubbub of CDW, in reference to Clerkenwell’s monastic past.
