From photography tours to talks, here are Icon’s top events for Wednesday at Clerkenwell Design Week Workshop: A brutal photography tour As part of tile manufacturer Domus’ Clerkenwell Design Week programme, Photographer, graphic designer, lecturer and founder of architecture platform This Brutal House, Peter Chadwick will lead a photography tour inspired by the district’s Brutalist architecture. Entrants to a parallel photography competition can win an annual membership to the Barbican Centre, Thames & Hudson books and prints of the winning shots. Wednesday, 20 May, 12.30pm. Leaves from 50 Great Sutton Street, EC1V 0DF Talk: GamFratesi Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi draw on the Scandinavian tradition of furniture design and craft and on the conceptual approach of Italian designers, and have worked for brands such as Gubi, Ligne Roset and Casamania. Catch the Danish-Italian design duo in conversation at Icon’s House of Culture during Clerkenwell Design Week. Wednesday, 20 May, 2pm at Icon’s House of Culture, 22 Clerkenwell Green, EC1R 0NA Pop over after GamFratesi’s talk at House of Culture to Agora on the Green – just outside the building. The striking, angular installation by designers Russ + Henshaw and charity Article 25 sets out to reanimate the underused Clerkenwell Green. The design is intended as a place where Clerkenwelllocals and festival visitors can meet, enjoy themselves and even customise the pavilion’s surface. At 3pm today, Article 25’s founder Maxwell Hutchinson will be speaking at the pavilion. Wednesday, 20 May, 3pm on Clerkenwell Green Talk: Todd Bracher Brooklyn-based industrial designer Todd Bracher discusses his work at Humanscale’s showroom. He recently designed the Trea chair for the manufacturer, which includes a recline mechanism that mimics the hips’ natural movements. He’s also designed products for Zanotta, Cappellini, Habitat and Fritz Hansen. Wednesday, 20 May, 6pm at Humanscale, 13 Northburgh Street, EC1V 0JP Talk: Michael Young When Michael Young moved to Hong Kong nine years ago, he was virtually a lone presence on the design scene. He has since become the go-to guy both for young designers and for local companies ranging in size from luggage specialist Zixag right up to Cathay Pacific. In his talk at Icon’s venue in Old Sessions House during Clerkenwell Design Week, Young will discuss his recent projects and how working in Hong Kong has shaped his approach to design. 6.30pm, Icon’s House of Culture, 22 Clekenwell Green |
