We pick-out some of the most exciting brands showing their work at 100% Design’s exhibition focused on high-quality design and craftsmanship Design London, a tightly curated show within a show, returns to 100% Design for a second time, with a much-expanded offering. Design London’s participants display a serious commitment to design and craftsmanship, as the show aims to be a platform for high-quality design, alongside its siblings Design Shanghai and Design Joburg. Here, we look at some of the most exciting brands taking part this year James UK (above) London-based furniture and interiors brand James UK brings a distinctive home-grown flavour to Design London. Having won wide acclaim for its careful blend of traditional techniques and modern technology, it commits to offering bespoke and sustainable fabrics and finishes for all its products. The designs – fittingly, a fresh combination of traditional forms adapted for the contemporary age – prove a natural fit for both home and office (and home office). Gufram Love it or hate it, one of Italy’s premier suppliers of postmodernist knick-knacks – who can forget the Capitello chair by Studio 65, which takes the shape of an Ionic capital, or Guido Drocco and Franco Mello’s Cactus coat-stand – is one of the most colourful brands exhibiting during the whole of LDF. In the recent past, Gufram has teamed up with Toiletpaper, Citroën and Studio Job, each time with highly whimsical results. Expect to be bedazzled and bamboozled … Branca Lisboa Portuguese design has a reputation for gilded extravagance, but it’s not wholly deserved. Branca Lisboa, art directed by designer Marco Sousa Santos, has combined time-honoured craft with (mostly) pared-down design since its founding back in 2010. Most of its products are proudly down-to earth, though its Shell chair – a cross between a plush throne-like seat and a laser-cut plywood skeleton – quickly dispels any doubts of the brand’s rebel credentials. 100% Design takes place from 20 to 23 September 2017.
