Set in the corner of the landmark Townsend building, one of the Flatiron District’s architectural jewels since its construction between 1896 and 1897, Sotto is the neighbourhood’s latest chic addition

New York-based design studio Parts and Labor Design has unveiled the elegant design for Sotto, a classic bar tucked beneath the new wood-fired Italian steakhouse Lupetto, that’s nestled in the Big Apple’s bustling neighbourhood of NoMad.
Continuing Lupetto’s narrative, the subterranean Amaro bar invites visitors to step inside, where low-lit, pink and golden-hued vignettes illuminate every corner. The upscale haunt pairs dark opulence and custom finishes to create a space that oozes sophistication.
‘The moment you enter, you forget what time it is, let alone what number cocktail you’re on,’ says Parts and Labor designer Danu Hassik. ‘It’s a very transporting space, which encourages guests to inhabit the current moment and focus on what’s right in front of them.’

Parts and Labor Design’s custom lighting adds an extra layer of drama and atmosphere. A velvet-framed chandelier, featuring a squared grove of hand-dyed tassels, plays the starring protagonist, while triangular metallic sconces and delicate lamps light the wall like jewels.
The outward-facing banquettes are all custom-designed and fabricated by Parts and Labor. Styled to feel like a sofa, and set in a cozy nook, the designers used rich materials like luxe pink velvet that encourage guests to get close.
With its refined menu and focus on craft Amaro, as well as its glamorous settings, Sotto is destined to become a quintessential New York destination.
