“Navigating the city” on 10 December is the second in the London As I See It series at the View from the Shard, and will be hosted by former RIBA president Angela Brady Broadcaster Jon Snow, author and psychogeographer Iain Sinclair and Omid Ashtari, general manager of transport app and Icon Awards nominee Citymapper, will be speaking at the top of the Shard on 10 December, in the second of the London As I See It series. At the Shard’s 800ft-high viewing gallery, they will present their take on the theme “Navigating the city”, exploring how London’s buildings, streets, history, signs and codes help them to do so. Each speaker will talk for 20 minutes, before taking questions from the audience and former RIBA president Angela Brady, who will host the event. Launched in September, London As I See It is a collaboration between Icon and the View from the Shard. For each event, we will invite high-profile designers, thinkers and writers to discuss the British capital and the forces that shape it. Shard engineer Roma Agrawal talks to former RIBA president Angela Brady At the first event, hosted by former RIBA president Angela Brady, writer Leo Hollis, Shard engineer Roma Agrawal and MUF Architecture’s Liza Fior speculated on the future of the British capital. Author Leo Hollis took a historic approach in his talk about London Ticket holders will have the chance to take in 40-mile night-time views across London, while sipping Champagne. They will also receive a copy of Icon’s January issue, which will feature interviews with the winners of the Icon Awards, which takes place on 5 December. One of Britain’s most respected and forthright broadcasters, he has won awards for his reports and documentaries from around the world. He has cycled through London, to and from work, for 40 years. Iain Sinclair is is a British writer, filmmaker and psychogeographer who focuses much of his work on London. Through books such as Ghostmilk and London Orbital (and the documentary of the same name), he critically examines themes such as the development trajectory of London and the impact of the 2012 Olympics. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature Omid Ashtari is the general manager of the transport app Citymapper, which is shortlisted for the title of Technology of the Year in the 2014 Icon Awards. The “ultimate transport app” brings together real-time transport route and timetable data in 10 cities in Europe and the US. Ashtari was previously the managing director of local search and discovery app Foursquare.
